SIGNS AND SYMTOMPS OF BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS IN CHILDREN

Behavioral disordersin children can be seen since the child is under five years of age. However, in general it will be more visible when the child is already in school. Behavioral disorders in children is a condition when children often behave deviantlyand beyond limits, so they often harm themselves and others. A child can be said to have a behavioral disorders if he or she has a repetitive deviant behavior pattern and persists for more than 6 months.
Mothers still have to be vigilant if their children often do delinquency that is much more severe and different from other children. Children who have behavioral disorders are often considered naughty and aggressive. Usually a child with a behavior disorders will cause them problems at school or with his friends. They tend to have trouble getting along and have less harmonious relationships with family members or other people around them.
The signs and symptoms of children with behavioral disorders will be seen from the following behaviors:
1. Impulsive or difficult to resist the urge to do something
2. Often argue against their parents and teachers
3. Irritable and difficult to contain emotions
4. Likes to throw, hit and break things when angry
5. Often uses physical and verbal abuse to friends and animals
6. Often make trouble, taunt others and fight
7. Often do bad acts, lie, steal and lazy to do tasks
8. Frequently breaking school rules, skipping classes, smoking or even
drinking alcohol and using drugs

In some cases, children with behavioral disorders can even commit sexual acts, like sexual harassment and have free sex with their peers.
What are the types of behavior disorders in children?
1. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHA)
This is a type of behavior disorder that most often encountered in
children. Characterized by difficulty focusing on doing something,
sloppy, talkative, nosy, ignorant of others and unable to stay still
(hyperactive).

2. Autism
Autism is a behavior disorder in children that makes it difficult for
children to communicate with others. Behaviors that are often seen in
children with autism include:
a. Often angry, crying or laughing unclearly.
b. Often doing certain repetitive movements, such as swinging hands
and twirling body
c. Doing certain activities and getting angry if their activities are
being interrupted
d. Body language and body movements are stiff
e. Only like and consume certain foods

3. Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
ODD usually appears in children aged 8-12 years. Children deliberately disturb others and even blame others for their mistakes. Their vengeful nature is high and will take revenge even if it wasn’t the person who made them angry. For example, if their parents hurt them, they will not hesitate to take revenge on their younger brother. Apart from being irritable, children with ODD also behave against parents, teachers, and disobeying rules at home and rules at school.

4. Conduct Disorder (CD)
CD is a serious emotional and behavioral disorder shown by children with violent behavior, likes to damage objects and very difficult to follow rules at school and at home. They were very fond of lying and cheating, not even afraid of breaking the law. Children with CDs also love to abuse animals.

Then what is the cause of behavior disorders in children?
The cause of behavior disorders in children is not yet known certainly. However, there are several factors that are thought to increase the causes of children experiencing behavioral disorders, including:
1. Health history or certain medical conditions
This includes maternal health since the child is still in the womb,
malnutrition, prematurebirth and brain abnormalities in the fetus.
Maternal lifestyle during pregnancy, for example smoking, drinking
alcohol and taking drugs that are prohibited for pregnant women.
2. Heredity, one of the family members has a behavior disorder
3. Parenting and family relationships
Children who are raised and cared for in an environment that is less
harmonious, have experienced physical violence, psychological
violence or sexual violence will be more at risk of experiencing
behavioral disorders.

Whatever the type of behavior disorder children are, mothers need to take immediate action. The condition of children’s behavior disorders needs to be detected and handled by a psychologist or psychiatrist. If it is not handled from the start, it is feared that it will become a mental disorder that will interfere with the child’s development. After the child’s behavior disorder is identified, they will receive psychotherapy, play therapy or get medication if needed.
Educating children with behavioral disorders is not easy, we must be patient and give more attention and affection to children.
